I am a San Diego native and a product of both Catholic and public schools. As a student at Patrick Henry High School, I started volunteering at an after school program in City Heights.  It was then that I started thinking that education might be the career path for me.  I received a BA in History with a minor in Education from UC Santa Cruz.  During my senior year in college, I participated in a UC internship program where I worked at the Children’s Defense Fund in Washington, DC.  I then went on to receive my Master of Arts in Teaching: Elementary Education from American University in DC.  While in my Masters’ program, I was an aide in 1st and 2nd grade in DC Public Schools and a student teacher in grades 3-4 at a school in Bethesda, MD.

My husband and I are both native Californians, so we returned home to San Diego.  I taught 4th grade at Fairbanks Country Day School in Rancho Santa Fe for one year, but knew I wanted to return to Catholic schools.  In September 2001, I began teaching 8th grade here at St. Rita’s School.  The community that I found here at St. Rita’s was like no other.  I left to teach 8th grade at another Diocesan school in 2014, but returned the following year because I missed my St. Rita’s family.  I enjoyed the two years I spent teaching grade 2, however, I am eager to return to my post this year as 8th grade teacher.

When 8th graders leave my class as graduates of St. Rita’s School, I hope that I have helped prepare them for their academic life in high school and beyond.  Writing is an important skill students will need for high school and college and I make sure that they can succeed as writers when they leave my class.  I also want my students to have a love for reading. Reading can take us many places, and I want 8th graders to know that they can go anywhere and do anything in their future.

In my spare time, I love reading, crafting, and being a Girl Scout leader.  I have a daughter, Grace, and a son, Wesley.  Our family lives in Ocean Beach.
