I grew up in Southeast San Diego, and I earned my Bachelor’s degree at San Diego State University. Many of my friends did not graduate high school, let alone college, so I wanted to become a teacher to help children like them feel and become successful. During my undergraduate studies, I was a middle school math teacher and youth leader for an after school enrichment program for schools in the South Bay. Many of the students I worked with were English Language Learners. These are students I can relate to because I grew up in a household where the adults did not speak much English. I have worked as a teacher’s aide and substitute for the Juvenile Court and Community School District. I was also a tutor for various subjects and grades as a teacher for Sylvan Learning Centers. As a parishioner of St. Rita’s Church, I volunteered at St. Rita’s School before becoming the kindergarten teacher. This year, I am teaching fourth grade.
